The move is described as necessary to ensure reliable traction power and to meet increasing demand as new sections are commissioned. GMRL has reportedly identified several potential sites near existing corridors and is engaging with municipal officials and landowners to expedite clearances.

The proposed facility is intended to strengthen the electrical infrastructure and provide redundancy for the metro system to reduce the risk of service disruption. Officials indicated that the substation will integrate with the regional grid and include space for control equipment and transformer bays. Planning documents are being prepared to address land use, environmental safeguards and technical specifications, with timelines linked to upcoming project phases.

GMRL plans to follow statutory procedures for land acquisition and will pursue negotiated purchases where feasible, aiming to minimise social impact.
