Gorakhpur's Third Rail Line and Interlocking System Receive CRS Approval

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) for North Eastern Railway (NER) has approved the newly electrified third rail track and the advanced electronic interlocking system between Gorakhpur Junction and Gorakhpur Cantt stations. This infrastructure upgrade is expected to significantly improve passenger amenities and operational efficiency in the region.

Spearheaded by NER’s Lucknow Division, the project includes a three point five kilometre-long, twenty-five thousand volt AC electrified track connecting two critical railway points in Gorakhpur. CRS Pranjeev Saxena led a detailed inspection, accompanied by senior railway officials including Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) Abhay Kumar Gupta, Chief Electrical Engineer (Construction) OP Singh, and Divisional Railway Manager Gaurav Agarwal.

At Gorakhpur Junction, the team reviewed the newly installed artificial intelligence-enabled electronic interlocking panel, safety records, yard layout, and power systems. A motor trolley was used for on-ground safety checks covering points, crossings, curves and bridges along the route.

At Gorakhpur Cantt, signalling systems, battery installations, platform clearances and staff readiness were thoroughly examined. The approval followed a successful high-speed trial on the new line, confirming its operational readiness and contributing to the modernisation of railway services in Gorakhpur.
