Approval by the Union Cabinet is expected this month for the Greater Noida West Metro corridor after the Detailed Project Report reached the Prime Minister's Office and authorities secured required no-objection certificates. A positive decision would allow tendering to start and move the project into construction. Noida CEO Krishna Karunesh said procedural clearances are complete.

The proposal covers an eight point four km elevated corridor with five stations linking Noida Sector 51 and Greater Noida West Sector 4. The revised alignment carries an estimated cost of 20 bn and is projected to require four years of construction once work begins. The line is intended to serve around half a million residents who rely on buses and private vehicles. Planners say it should ease congestion near Gaur Chowk.

The Public Investment Board cleared the revised plan in July after review by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), which prepared the Detailed Project Report. The current proposal is shorter than an earlier 18 km alignment that would have extended to Knowledge Park V. The Uttar Pradesh government approved the original route in 2024 but the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs sought clarity on a proposed 72 km Ghaziabad-Jewar rapid rail corridor, prompting NMRC to revise the project.

The central government has also cleared two other corridors proposed by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation, Aqua Line extension from Sector 142 to Botanical Garden and the Depot-Boraki link. Larsen & Toubro has been awarded contracts for those projects. The existing Aqua Line recorded an average daily ridership of 61,811 passengers as of July 2026, underlining demand for expanded services. Officials say advancing projects aims to strengthen the regional network.

If the Union Cabinet approves the Greater Noida West corridor, authorities can finalise procurement and select a construction agency. The project is presented as a strategic response to rapid residential growth in Greater Noida West and persistent traffic pressures. Implementation would link the suburb more directly to Noida’s Metro network and expand public transport options. The approval would unlock the next phase of delivery.
