Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has announced an upgrade plan for 10 high-traffic stations aimed at improving passenger movement, parking, cleanliness and commuter amenities. The plan, presented as a pilot that will be implemented at selected locations before a wider rollout, is intended to address peak-hour congestion and street-level maintenance issues affecting access and safety. The authority said the initiative forms part of ongoing inspections designed to monitor compliance and track progress on passenger facilities.

Additional Managing Director B Ajith Reddy conducted an extensive field inspection, travelling on the metro from Begumpet to Raidurg to evaluate platform maintenance, concourse amenities and ground-level infrastructure. He directed officials to improve station maintenance and reorganise transit facilities to ease flows during office hours. The inspection highlighted concerns over upkeep of central medians beneath metro pillars and the need for prompt remedial action by sanitation agencies.

He instructed a focus on reorganising transit arrangements at major information technology hubs, including the Raidurg skywalk and the high-density Mindspace junction, to ensure smoother commuter movement during peak periods. Plans were ordered to restructure street-level parking lots at Begumpet, Ameerpet and Raidurg for maximum space efficiency and to reduce spillover onto adjacent roads. Officials were urged to review retail spaces beneath stations to ensure safety standards and commuter convenience are upheld.

The upcoming overhaul of the selected stations will serve as a pilot before similar works are rolled out across the wider network, and HMRL said it will continue inspections in the coming weeks to monitor compliance and track progress on passenger amenities. The authority directed teams to submit detailed action plans, prioritise corrective measures and coordinate with municipal and sanitation agencies to maintain standards. Officials were reminded to ensure that interventions minimise disruption to commuters and that improvements are delivered with attention to safety, accessibility and long-term maintenance.
