Hyderabad’s Malakpet Station Nears Completion Under ABSS
The Railways has identified 40 stations across Telangana for redevelopment at a total estimated outlay of Rs 27.5 billion, with the aim of offering modern passenger amenities and turning these stations into regional growth centres. The list includes the large-scale upgradation of Secunderabad Railway Station to world-class standards. So far, Begumpet, Warangal and Karimnagar stations have been inaugurated, while work continues at the others.
Malakpet Railway Station, classified as a suburban grade-3 (SG-3) station under the Hyderabad Division, is located on the Kacheguda–Falaknuma suburban route and serves thousands of daily commuters. It also caters to express services such as the Kacheguda–Kurnool Tungabhadra Express and the Kacheguda–Guntur Express, alongside regular MMTS suburban trains. The station is being redeveloped under ABSS at an estimated cost of Rs 265 million.
Proposed works include: • Improved circulating area • Provision and relocation of parking sheds • Installation of local art, selfie points and signages • Entrance arches on both sides • Upgraded station façade • Construction of a 12-metre Foot Over Bridge (FOB) • Cover over platforms • Two escalators and two lifts • Platform surface improvements • Landscaping and upgraded lighting • Metro connectivity • Digital train information boards
Works completed and current status: • Commercial complex: Terrace slab completed; ground-floor brickwork and modified booking office on the first floor finished; plumbing and plastering underway. • Platform works: Fencing wall and duct work completed. • Parking sheds: Foundation work completed. • 12-metre FOB: Girder launching, gangway sheeting and canopy completed; slab reinforcement in progress. • Divyangjan toilets: Brickwork, plastering and plumbing completed; finishing work underway. • Cover over platforms, lifts and escalators: Work to begin shortly.
All works are progressing simultaneously and are targeted for completion by June 2026.
