Union minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the Medha Bogies Factory in Hyderabad and reviewed manufacturing operations and workforce training. He was accompanied by the union minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy and engaged with engineers and production teams throughout the visit. Vaishnaw noted that, under the Make in India programme, India is emerging as a major manufacturer and exporter of railway products.

He said advanced components such as propulsion systems and electronics are now being designed and made in India and exported to markets including France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, the United States and Japan. The minister described the quality of many components as world class and indicated that such capability is essential to secure a stronger position in the global market. He highlighted that complex systems, long regarded as imported items, are increasingly indigenised.

He emphasised the need for a strong design focus, rigorous quality control and aligned supply chains to meet international standards. Vaishnaw also discussed the growing role of semiconductor design and manufacturing in India during a morning roundtable with representatives of the information technology industry. He underlined the opportunity for rail manufacturing to benefit from closer collaboration with semiconductor and electronics firms.

During the factory tour the minister examined multiple stages of the production process and took feedback on technical capabilities and workflow efficiencies. He reviewed skill development initiatives and the training being provided to support advanced manufacturing methods. The visit included discussion on the adoption of modern manufacturing practices and steps to strengthen workforce competencies.

The minister enquired about day to day responsibilities of employees and their learning experiences and acknowledged the dedication and technical expertise of the teams. He reviewed manufacturing infrastructure and received updates on quality standards, production systems and capacity enhancement initiatives at the facility. Officials said these measures are intended to bolster domestic production and expand export prospects.
