Indian Railways Begins Work on Fourth Line in Bhopal Division

The Bhopal division of Indian Railways has commenced work on a fourth railway line between Itarsi, Bhopal, and Bina, aiming to streamline train movement, ease congestion, and improve overall efficiency.
The project is designed to increase capacity for both passenger and freight trains while spurring regional development and job creation. Currently, the existing three lines on this route face heavy traffic, often leading to delays. The addition of a fourth line will reduce congestion, allowing smoother and more punctual train operations.
Survey work for the new line between Itarsi–Bhopal and Bhopal–Bina is already underway. Upon completion, land acquisition will begin in line with regulations, with proper compensation to be provided to affected landowners through district administration.
The new railway line will traverse key districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Narmadapuram, Raisen, Sehore, Bhopal, Vidisha, and Sagar. Enhanced connectivity is expected to ease passenger travel and facilitate the expansion of industrial and logistical activities.
The initiative will also reduce travel time and transportation costs for freight, while generating local employment in construction, maintenance, and operations. Supporting infrastructure such as goods sheds and logistics hubs will further accelerate regional economic growth.
This fourth line represents a major infrastructure milestone in strengthening train services and supporting the broader development of central Madhya Pradesh.
