Indian Railways runs 12,000 special trains for festive rush

Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced that more than 12,000 special trains have been deployed in addition to regular services to manage the ongoing festive rush across the country.

Vaishnaw said that nearly 16 million (1.6 crore) passengers have already travelled on these special trains, with a similar number expected to make return journeys after the Chhath festival.

He noted that the Railway team has worked systematically to manage the seasonal surge in travellers. Enhanced crowd management measures include holding areas, CCTV surveillance, handheld Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), and improved passenger flow arrangements at key stations.

Extending festive greetings on Chhath Puja, the minister said that special arrangements have been made at around 30 stations in North Bihar and Purvanchal, featuring dedicated holding areas to ensure passenger comfort and organised boarding.

Passengers commend Railways’ effective management

Indian Railways’ efforts to provide a smooth, safe, and comfortable travel experience have been widely appreciated. Passengers across various stations have praised the cleanliness, planning, and convenience offered during the festive season.

At New Delhi Railway Station, travellers expressed satisfaction with efficient management and hygiene standards. A passenger at Hubballi Junction said that the introduction of special trains made it easier to get confirmed tickets. Another traveller from New Delhi to Chhapra thanked the Railways for the availability of seats, noting the festive ambience at stations like Bhagalpur, where traditional Chhath songs were played.

Passengers at Pune and Raipur Junction highlighted the comfort of well-organised seating areas, access to water and fans, and systematic queue management that eased the boarding process.

With its vast network and dedicated workforce, Indian Railways continues to demonstrate its commitment to efficiency, safety, and passenger comfort. From operating thousands of additional trains to ensuring cleanliness and punctuality, the organisation remains focused on delivering a seamless festive travel experience across India.
