Indian Railways is intensifying its focus on safety by planning to invite additional bids for the deployment of the Kavach anti-collision system. This initiative is part of the railway network's broader safety enhancement strategy to reduce accidents and improve operational efficiency.

Kavach, an advanced train protection system, aims to prevent collisions by automatically halting trains if they detect potential dangers, such as signals being passed at danger or overspeeding. The system integrates sophisticated sensors and communication technology to enhance real-time decision-making and ensure train safety.

Currently, Kavach is being tested and implemented on key routes, but Indian Railways is accelerating its rollout to cover more areas. The forthcoming bidding process will seek to engage more technology providers and contractors to expand the system's reach across the railway network.

The decision to expedite Kavach?s deployment follows several recent incidents highlighting the need for improved safety measures. By enhancing the system?s implementation, Indian Railways aims to significantly reduce the likelihood of train accidents and enhance passenger safety.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasised that the introduction of Kavach across the entire network will be a major milestone in railway safety. The new bids will ensure that Kavach?s benefits are extended to more train routes, marking a significant step towards safer rail travel in India.
