Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has directed officials to accelerate the implementation of the Kavach system following a recent rail accident in West Bengal. Kavach, an automatic train protection system designed to prevent collisions on the same track, will be rolled out across 44,000 km of railway tracks over the next five years, as informed to the Cabinet Secretary. Chairing a review meeting on Kavach 4.0, Vaishnaw emphasised the urgent installation of the system on all locomotives once ready. The railway ministry aims to complete the installation on the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah routes by March 2024, with tenders for an additional 6,000 km expected by year-end.(Source: ET)
