Indian Railways has announced plans to develop 7,000 km of dedicated passenger corridors by 2047, designed for trains capable of reaching speeds of up to 350 kmph. The initiative forms part of the government’s long-term “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision to modernise India’s transport infrastructure and enhance nationwide connectivity.

According to railway officials, the new corridors will be built on greenfield alignments separate from existing routes to ensure higher speed, safety, and efficiency. These high-speed and semi-high-speed tracks will link major metropolitan centres, reducing travel times and supporting economic integration across regions.

The project is also expected to complement the ongoing Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train and other high-speed rail initiatives, aligning with India’s ambition to create a world-class rail network powered by advanced technology and sustainable mobility solutions.
