Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has indicated that India's first Bullet Train project is advancing at a strong pace and that key milestones are expected over the coming months. He noted that manufacturing has advanced rapidly and that the first test coach for trials is already ready. Vaishnaw said he reviewed progress across manufacturing and construction during a recent inspection in Ahmedabad.

The minister reported that the first section between Surat and Bilimora is targeted for commissioning next year and that civil construction on the Vapi-Surat section is expected to be completed by December. He added that work on the wider stretch is advancing faster than anticipated and that manufacturing of additional coaches continues apace. Project teams are focusing on coordination between contractors and suppliers to maintain the pace.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR) was cited as the flagship route for the country's high-speed rail programme and was said to represent a major step in modernising national rail infrastructure. The corridor measures 508 kilometre and passes through Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Officials noted that the line comprises 12 stations including Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.

Designers are reported to be ensuring that each station reflects the character of its host city while offering contemporary architecture, modern amenities and multimodal connectivity. The corridor aims to reduce travel time significantly and to enhance passenger comfort, safety and reliability as part of a broader push towards sustainable economic development. Authorities are coordinating testing protocols and safety certifications ahead of commissioning.

Project timelines indicate that the first high-speed service on the corridor is expected to commence in August 2027 and that commissioning targets for sections will guide phased operations. The minister framed the programme as under the vision of the Prime Minister and said it would mark the beginning of a new era in rapid rail travel. Stakeholders continue to monitor progress as teams prepare for testing and certification.
