Indore Metro Revises Khajrana To Bengali Square Corridor
The contractor was originally assigned the elevated stretch from Robot Square to Khajrana Square, passing through key junctions including Bengali Square, Palasia Square and MG Road. Only about one point three kilometres of the elevated structure has been completed to date, leaving the rest of the five-kilometre corridor pending execution. The change in design reflects engineering and urban design considerations identified during the alignment review.
MPMRCL has stated that work on other project segments, including the elevated corridor from Gandhi Nagar to Radisson Square, will continue as planned so as to maintain overall progress. The corporation has indicated that contractual changes arising from the alignment revision will be addressed through arbitration. The arbitration process is expected to settle scope adjustments and financial terms with the contractor. A revised financial estimate will be published when design contours and excavation requirements are settled.
The revision is likely to affect timelines and will require revised designs, approvals and cost assessments before construction resumes on the altered sections. Officials will finalise detailed plans and a revised schedule once technical studies and clearances are complete. Officials also noted that passenger convenience and traffic management will inform the sequencing of works. The authority has emphasised that the aim is to balance urban constraints with the metro network objective and to minimise disruption during implementation.
