Interchanging corridors in the Kolkata metro have streamlined commuting for daily travellers. The convergence point of these two corridors at Esplanade has notably facilitated commuters from the suburban areas of Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway to navigate the city effortlessly, including reaching the heart of the city, Esplanade itself. Since the commencement of commercial services on the underwater stretch of Green Line 2 from March 15 to May 15, over 820,000 passengers have utilised the interchange between various stations of the Green and Blue Lines. This statistic underscores the convenience provided by the interchange at Esplanade, allowing travellers to access different parts of the city with ease. Notably, more than 464,000 passengers have travelled from Howrah Metro station to different Blue Line stations; while over 325,000 passengers have done the same from Howrah Maidan Metro station. Additionally, more than 46,000 passengers have travelled to Dumdum, and 39,000 passengers to Kalighat from various stations along Green Line 2 during this period. Furthermore, over 26,000 passengers have travelled up to Kavi Subhash from Howrah Maidan, Howrah, and Mahakaran Metro stations, while more than 13,000 passengers have travelled to Dakshineswar, and 36,000 passengers to Rabindra Sadan from different stations along this stretch of the Green Line. To enhance the interchange experience, queue managers have been installed at Esplanade Metro station, ensuring a seamless transition for passengers between Old Esplanade station (Blue Line) and New Esplanade station (Green Line).
