Jindal Steel Wins Rail Supply Bid for Bengaluru Suburban Rail
The tender, floated in 2024, had a delivery timeline of three hundred and sixty-five days. Only one bid was received and evaluated, with technical assessments conducted on five April 2025 and financial bids opened on eleven April 2025. Jindal Steel quoted a bid value of twenty point six million rupees.
The contract scope includes the supply of 60E1 (UIC 60), 880 Grade rails, as per IRS-T-12-2009 standards, for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail system.
The suburban rail project, currently under construction, will span 149.35 kilometres across four corridors:
Corridor One – Sampige Line (KSR Bengaluru – Yelahanka – Devanahalli): 41.48 km
Corridor Two – Mallige Line (Baiyyappanahalli Terminal – Chikkabanavara): 24.87 km
Corridor Three – Parijaata Line (Kengeri – Whitefield): 35.52 km
Corridor Four – Kanaka Line (Heelalige – Rajankunte): 46.29 km
This is a key milestone for Bengaluru’s urban mobility, aiming to enhance daily commuter rail services across the city.
