Kanpur to Get a Modern Railway Station
The elevated railway project comes with a budget of approximately Rs 9.5 billion and is expected to be completed within two years. A key aspect of the plan is the closure of two railway stations, Rawatpur and Kalyanpur, which will be replaced by a new, modern station named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The new station will be strategically located near the Indian Pulses Research Institute, ensuring better connectivity for commuters. Extensive planning and detailed surveys have been conducted by railway and administrative officials to ensure a smooth transition to the elevated track. Neeraj Srivastava, the project's coordinator, highlighted the ambitious goals of the project and its potential to significantly benefit Kanpur's residents. Currently, around 70 trains pass through the Rawatpur and Kalyanpur stations each day. During the two-year construction period, these trains will be rerouted to facilitate uninterrupted progress on the project. Though this measure might cause temporary inconvenience, the long-term benefits for commuters are expected to outweigh these disruptions The elevated track is a game-changer for Kanpur, offering a solution to the chronic traffic problems that have long plagued the city. By eliminating the frequent stoppages caused by the Mandhana Anwarganj crossings, the project will enable smoother traffic flow and faster commutes. Additionally, the new railway station will provide modern amenities and better facilities for passengers, making travel more comfortable and efficient.
