The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has reported completion of 23 per cent of construction work on the Kasheli Metro depot as of June 2026. The depot will serve as the operations, maintenance and stabling facility for Metro Line 5 that connects Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan and Ulhasnagar. The authority said the progress reflects ongoing site works and preliminary civil structures being established to receive rail systems and depot equipment in later phases.

Spread across nearly 27 hectares near the Kasheli Toll Plaza, the depot site secured statutory environmental clearances in August 2025. The facility is being developed to support the rolling stock fleet and long-term operations of the nearly 32 km Metro Line 5 corridor, including workshops, stabling yards and administrative areas. Land assembly and access arrangements have been completed for primary construction, enabling contractors to advance earthworks, foundations and service corridors.

MMRDA is implementing a phased construction strategy intended to make key depot facilities operational at the earliest feasible stages, allowing selective commissioning of systems ahead of full depot completion. Early operational areas will permit progressive testing, train stabling and routine maintenance activities while other sections continue under construction. The approach is designed to align depot delivery with train procurement and depot commissioning schedules to reduce operational bottlenecks once the corridor is ready for service.

The authority reported ongoing coordination with contractors and utility agencies to manage timelines, safety and environmental compliances during construction. Continued progress at the Kasheli depot is integral to the wider Metro Line 5 project and its objective of improving regional transit capacity. MMRDA will monitor works and report milestones as construction advances towards full completion.
