The Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit in Warangal district, Telangana, is progressing rapidly, with Rs 3.10 billion—about 60 per cent of the total estimated cost of Rs 5.21 billion—already spent, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha on August 8. The facility will be capable of manufacturing and maintaining a wide range of railway products.

Responding to a query from Congress MP Anil Kumar Yadav, Vaishnaw said that construction and electrical infrastructure installation at the site are nearing completion. Once operational, the Kazipet facility is expected to strengthen India’s railway manufacturing capacity and boost sectoral growth.

On July 19, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy visited the site to review progress on the Rail Coach Factory and Railway Manufacturing Unit. The ministers expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction, describing the project as fulfilling a long-standing aspiration of Warangal residents.

Vaishnaw announced that production of railway coaches in Kazipet will begin in 2026. He added that 150 locomotives will soon be exported from Kazipet, with future plans to manufacture metro coaches as well.

G Kishan Reddy highlighted that the Kazipet Railway Coach Factory was the result of a 40-year struggle. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned the establishment of a railway wagon, coach, and engine manufacturing unit here,” he said, adding that 40 railway stations in Telangana are also undergoing modernisation.
