Kochi Water Metro to increase number of trips during Onam

Kochi Water Metro Ltd (KWML) is set to boost the frequency of its Water Metro services in anticipation of a rise in demand during the Onam festival. Currently, KWML operates six routes with an average daily ridership of 3,000 passengers. Authorities expect this number to rise during the festive period, driven by increased tourist inflow, which is likely to persist beyond Onam.

With its fleet of electric-hybrid boats now expanded to 16, KWML plans to enhance services on the High Court-Fort Kochi and High Court-Vypeen routes. Additionally, the Water Metro will extend its network to new areas, launching five more routes by September. These will include services to Kumbalam, Paliyamthuruth, Willingdon Island, Kadamakkudy, and Mattancherry.
