Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has signed a Contract Agreement with Nepal Railway Company Limited (NRCL) for the operation and maintenance of the cross border railway system connecting Jaynagar in India with Kurtha–Bijalpura and Bhangaha in Nepal. The agreement was executed in the presence of Dinesh K. Gajbhiye, Chief Mechanical Engineer of KRCL, Paribesh Parajuli, Managing Director of NRCL, and senior officials from both sides. The pact is intended to facilitate smooth and reliable passenger train services across the international link.

The scope of the contract covers day to day operation and maintenance activities for the cross border corridor, including track maintenance, signalling upkeep and operational management. The contract also covers staff training, scheduled inspections and spare parts management to maintain operational standards. The route between Jaynagar and Kurtha–Bijalpura/Bhangaha will be administered under the terms of the agreement to ensure continuity of services and adherence to safety protocols. The companies stated that the arrangement strengthens bilateral railway connectivity and supports seamless movement of passengers.

KRCL will, on behalf of the parties, oversee routine maintenance, rolling stock availability, timetabling coordination and coordination of technical staff at border stations. NRCL will partner on cross border procedures, station operations and passenger facilitation to align regulatory and operational requirements. Both KRCL and NRCL will establish joint mechanisms for incident response, maintenance scheduling and technical audits to uphold service reliability.

Officials indicated that implementation plans, including detailed timelines and service frequency, will be issued by the companies as operations commence. The agreement is the latest step in formalising operational arrangements for cross border rail links in the region and is expected to contribute to improved passenger connectivity between India and Nepal. Both parties will monitor service performance through established reporting channels during the initial phase of operations.
