L&T Wins Electrification Contract for Mumbai Metro Lines 4 & 4A

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a major electrification contract from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for Mumbai Metro Line 4 and Line 4A, further strengthening its presence in the city’s rapid transit infrastructure.

The contract, awarded under Package CA-298, covers Mumbai Metro Line 4 and Line 4A, which together span 35.2 km, connecting Wadala to Kasarvadavali and Gaimukh. As part of the scope, L&T will undertake the design, manufacture, supply, installation, integration, testing and commissioning of power supply and traction systems for 24.72 route km. The package also includes the provision of a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for the entire Line 4 and 4A network.

In addition, the contract covers electrical and mechanical systems, including lifts and escalators, for 22 elevated stations and two depots, along with five years of comprehensive maintenance. The SCADA system will cater to 32 stations, depots and the receiving substation across the corridor. All works under the package will be executed by L&T’s in-house design and execution teams.

This marks the third consecutive order won by L&T on the Mumbai Metro Line 4 and 4A corridor. Earlier, the company had received letters of acceptance for Package CA-234 and Package CA-168.

Package CA-234 includes the supply of rolling stock, Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling, telecommunications systems, platform screen doors and depot machinery and plant for the entire corridor. Package CA-168 involves ballast-less track works over a 19.5 km stretch covering 15 stations on Mumbai Metro Lines 4 and 4A.

With multiple packages awarded across civil, systems and rolling stock works, L&T has emerged as a key contractor for the Line 4 and 4A corridors, which are expected to significantly improve east–west and north–south connectivity in Mumbai and ease pressure on the city’s congested road network.
