Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) has received a Letter of Acceptance from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for Package CA-298, an electrification contract for Mumbai Metro Line 4 and Line 4A, strengthening its presence in the city’s rapid transit infrastructure programme.

The contract relates to the 35.2-kilometre corridor connecting Wadala, Kasarvadavali and Gaimukh. L&T emerged as the lowest bidder with a bid value of around Rs 12.6 billion, compared with Rs 14.1 billion quoted by IRCON International Limited.

MMRDA had invited bids with a deadline of 2,556 days. Technical bids were opened on October 24, 2025, with three firms participating in the tender process. Following technical evaluation in November 2025 and financial evaluation in January 2026, L&T was declared the successful bidder and awarded the contract.

The scope of work includes design, manufacture, supply, installation, integration, testing and commissioning of power supply and traction systems, electrical and mechanical works, and lifts and escalators for Metro Line 4 and its extension corridor 4A. The contract also covers five years of comprehensive maintenance after a two-year defect liability period.

This marks the third major contract secured by L&T for Mumbai Metro Line 4 and 4A. Earlier, the company had received Letters of Acceptance for Package CA-234 and Package CA-168. Package CA-234 covers rolling stock, communication-based signalling and train control, telecommunications, platform screen doors and depot machinery, along with long-term maintenance. Package CA-168 involves ballastless trackwork, siding tracks and pocket tracks along the corridor.

The latest contract win underscores L&T’s strong position in India’s urban rail infrastructure segment and its growing role in the execution of Mumbai’s metro expansion programme.
