MahaMetro Submits DPR For Nigdi-Chakan Metro Line

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) has submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), marking the first major milestone for the proposed metro line from Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, Nigdi to Chakan. The announcement was made by MLA Shankar Jagtap on Tuesday via his X (formerly Twitter) handle.
The proposed metro line will span 35–40 km, offering a fast, comfortable and environmentally friendly transport solution across Pimpri-Chinchwad’s industrial belt. According to Jagtap, the corridor will connect nearly 75 per cent of the city, transforming commuting for thousands of daily travellers who currently face heavy congestion and long journey times to reach Chakan MIDC and other commercial hubs.
The metro line is expected to ease pressure on busy roads while cutting travel time significantly. It is also projected to support local industries and boost the regional economy by improving connectivity along the industrial corridor. Jagtap said the project continues the legacy of Late Laxman Jagtap, under whose leadership Pimpri-Chinchwad developed into an industrial powerhouse.
In addition to the Nigdi–Chakan corridor, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has suggested extending the metro line from Loni Kalbhor to Uruli Kanchan, citing growing traffic congestion on the Pune–Solapur Highway and increasing urbanisation.
