The Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MahaRail) is aiming to complete three under-construction flyovers in east Nagpur by December 2026 to ease persistent traffic congestion. The projects are intended to strengthen road connectivity across the eastern suburbs and to reduce journey times for commuters. Construction has continued amid expanding residential and commercial activity that has increased traffic volumes.

Work is being overseen by MahaRail managing director Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal and targets key junctions including Wardhaman Nagar, Nandanvan, Hasanbag and Jagnade Square. While building activity has contributed to local snarls, the authority has implemented phased diversions and temporary signalling adjustments to maintain smoother flow and minimise disruption. Traffic management measures have been coordinated with local police to protect mobility during peak hours.

The IOCL–Nirmal Nagari flyover, the longest of the three at two point seven one kilometres, will link Wardhaman Nagar near the IOCL petrol pump to Nirmal Nagari and will include an additional ramp toward KDK College; it will comprise 77 spans and an 11-metre carriageway to relieve heavy volumes on the Wardhaman Nagar corridor. The Rajendra Nagar–Hasanbagh Chowk flyover, spanning 924 metres, will connect Rajendra Nagar in Nandanvan with Hasanbagh Chowk. The Jagnade Square works include two elevated corridors, one connecting Reshimbagh Chowk with KDK College Square and the other linking Bhande Plot Chowk with Telephone Exchange Chowk.

Separately, MahaRail is constructing an additional flyover between Azam Shah Chowk and Marwadi Chowk, an 898-metre-long structure projected for completion by December 2027, although a section that would merge with the Dahi Bazaar railway overbridge is on hold pending availability of the Pachpaoli bridge as a diversion route. The Lakadganj police station–Wardhaman Nagar flyover, opened on 15 December last year, has already provided relief to commuters. Officials expect the combined upgrades to improve traffic resilience in east Nagpur.
