Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced a plan to construct 145 flyovers across Maharashtra as part of an initiative to make the state free of railway level crossings. The state government described the scheme as a major infrastructure drive aimed at easing urban congestion and improving road safety. The announcement sets out a renewed focus on separating road and rail traffic at busy crossings.

The project will target grade separations at major and intermediate crossings to reduce delays for commuters and freight movement. Officials indicated that the programme will cover both urban centres and regional corridors with priority given to locations with the highest vehicular and train interaction. Work is expected to be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to existing services.

The state government said it will coordinate with Indian Railways and municipal bodies to finalise designs and land acquisition plans. Implementation will involve state and central funding sources along with possible private sector participation where feasible. Technical assessments and environmental clearances will precede construction at each site.

Authorities expect the flyover programme to yield long term benefits in traffic fluidity and road safety, reducing the incidence of vehicular delays and level crossing collisions. The measures are intended to support economic activity by improving the reliability of road transport and easing last mile connectivity.
