The project, being executed at an estimated cost of Rs 265 million, has already completed 92 per cent of its work, with the final stages progressing swiftly. This redevelopment aims to provide world-class facilities to passengers and forms part of Indian Railways’ broader vision to modernise stations across the country.
Union Minister Mr G. Kishan Reddy recently confirmed the development on his official X account, stating that the station will soon be open for public use. The focus of the redevelopment is on enhancing infrastructure, aesthetics and passenger comfort.
Strategically located between the key Kazipet and Vijayawada stations, Mahbubabad serves as an important link to major cities such as New Delhi, Chennai, Vijayawada and Secunderabad. Currently operating with two platforms, the station manages approximately 46 trains and handles an average of 14,706 passengers daily. It is expected to generate an annual revenue of Rs 88.7 million.
Improved Facilities for Passengers
The modernised station will offer a range of upgraded facilities, including:
- A 12-metre-wide foot overbridge fitted with two lifts and two escalators to improve accessibility for all, including senior citizens and passengers with disabilities.
- Renovated platforms with enhanced roofing and modern LED lighting to create a brighter and safer environment.
- New waiting halls furnished with contemporary seating and hygienic toilets to improve commuter comfort.
- Improved parking facilities for ease of access.
- Installation of digital display boards, coach indicators and clear signage to provide real-time train information.
- Deployment of automated ticketing machines and organised queue lines at ticket counters to streamline the booking process.
These upgrades are designed to meet the increasing expectations of travellers, offering a seamless, safe and convenient journey. The master plan, developed under the guidance of the Minister of Railways, ensures that Mahbubabad station will serve not only as a transport hub but also as a comfortable and accessible space for all users.
The station’s modernisation marks a significant step towards improving rail travel and infrastructure in the region, reinforcing the government’s commitment to enhancing passenger experience across India.
