A metre gauge line connecting Mathura and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh will be converted into a heritage line by the Indian Railways.

The rail line gauge conversion project on the Mathura - Vrindavan rail section has been halted, according to officials quoted in a Press Trust of India (PTI) report.

Once the work is completed, traffic on the route to the national capital is expected to reduce.

While development work on the fourth line between Palwal and Mathura will be completed this year, development work on the third line between Mathura-Keetham will be completed next year, according to the General Manager of North Central Railways.

Meanwhile, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Railways, inspected rail tracks and ongoing work on the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) and other railway projects in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Minister travelled from Falna to Vapi on 3 October, according to a statement released by Western Railways.

Vaishnaw visited the Ajmer, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Mumbai Central Divisions to inspect ongoing work on the DFC as well as other railway works or projects.

He also went over the status of ongoing projects in Gujarat and Maharashtra and met with senior officials from the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL), the company in charge of the DFC project.
