Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation (MMMOCL) has awarded the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contract for the Mumbai Monorail to Power Mech Projects. The contract covers the Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk (Jacob Circle) to Chembur corridor, with the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) issued on April 8, 2026.

The award comes as the 19.54-km Mumbai Monorail line, linking Chembur in the eastern suburbs to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk in South Mumbai, moves closer to resuming services after a prolonged suspension.

Mumbai Monorail operations were halted on September 20, 2025, following repeated technical failures, including three mid-journey breakdowns. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) subsequently suspended services to undertake a comprehensive system overhaul. The upgrade programme includes induction of new rolling stock, implementation of CBTC-based signalling, and refurbishment of the existing fleet.

In February 2026, MMRDA announced that Bureau Veritas, acting as the Independent Safety Assessor, had issued the mandatory safety certification for the monorail’s new rolling stock and the upgraded signalling system.

As part of the revival plan, Medha Servo Drives, which supplied 10 newly built monorail rakes, has been directed to align testing schedules with the planned restart timeline. Trial runs and system validation are currently underway, covering rolling stock performance, signalling, telecommunications, automatic fare collection gates and passenger information systems.

Officials said the award of the O&M contract is a significant step towards ensuring smooth operations and maintenance support once the monorail services are restored.
