MMRCL Plans 3 km Of Subways To Improve Metro 3 Connectivity
One subway will connect the Worli Science Centre station with the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, the Worli promenade and the Nehru Planetarium. The second will link the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station with the Bullet Train terminal.
R. Ramana, Director at MMRCL, said an agency will soon be appointed to prepare the Detailed Project Report for the two pedestrian vestibules or subways, which will together span 3 kilometres. The same agency will also serve as the project management consultant during construction.
The Worli Science Centre subway will be 1.6 km long, providing direct access to the racecourse, the upcoming Coastal Road garden and a new commercial centre planned on the erstwhile Worli Dairy plot. An official said the State Urban Development Department will soon amend the Development Control and Promotional Regulations to change the land reservation of the Worli Dairy site to commercial use. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has already been designated as the planning body for the plot.
The subway at BKC will be 1.4 km long and will connect directly to the Bullet Train terminal. MMRCL officials said the cost of the two subways will be determined once the DPR is completed.
