As Mumbai awaits the full operation of the 33.5km Aqua Line 3, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has proposed a new underground corridor—Metro Line 11—stretching 17.5km from Anik Depot to the Gateway of India. The proposal has been submitted to the Maharashtra government and will move to the Union Urban Development Ministry following state clearance.

Metro Line 11 is designed to decongest the densely populated areas of South Mumbai. It will feature 13 stations, of which 12 will be underground and one—Anik Depot—at ground level. The plan includes a new depot at the 16-hectare Anik–Pratiksha Nagar BEST bus depot, enabling smoother metro-bus integration.

Of the 13 stations, eight will be constructed using the cut-and-cover technique, while the rest will employ the New Austrian Tunnelling Method, which leverages the natural stability of surrounding rock formations.

This line will integrate with existing and upcoming public transport systems including Metro Line 4 (Wadala–Kasarvadavli), Aqua Line 3, the Monorail, and key suburban railway stations such as Byculla and CSMT, enhancing connectivity across the city.
