The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has proposed a sixth station on a partially cleared stretch of Metro 2B with the objective of boosting ridership. The authority has identified a gap in the corridor where an additional stop could improve access for nearby residential and commercial areas and has moved to evaluate the idea within existing project parameters. The plan follows clearance of portions of the alignment and aims to integrate the new station into the current construction schedule.

Officials say the additional station is intended to tighten catchment areas and to address concerns about low patronage on segments of the route. The proposed stop is expected to shorten walking distances for prospective users and to provide better interchange options with local bus and suburban services, thereby encouraging modal shift. Planners expect that enhancing local connectivity will gradually raise passenger numbers and improve revenue prospects for the line once the station becomes operational.

The MMRDA will carry out technical studies to assess structural design, signalling adjustments and platform requirements and will estimate costs before final approval. Coordination with municipal bodies, utility agencies and law enforcement is planned to minimise disruption and to secure any remaining land clearances required for construction. Procurement and tendering processes are likely to follow standard timelines for urban rail projects in the region.

If approved, the additional station could alter commissioning schedules but is seen as a long term measure to strengthen the corridor. Officials indicate that a formal announcement on design and timelines will be issued after feasibility work is complete, and that the authority will seek to align the station opening with broader efforts to increase public transport use in the city.
