In a major stride towards seamless and integrated urban mobility, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for Mumbai Metro Line 3 on 10 June 2025. The initiative, led by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRC), has been implemented in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the State Bank of India (SBI).

The NCMC, powered by RuPay, enables commuters to travel contact-free across Metro Line 3 stations, covering the stretch between Aarey JVLR and Acharya Atre Chowk, without queueing at ticket counters. The card is now active on Line 3 services from 11 June, and is also valid on other city transit systems including Mumbai Metro Lines 1, 2A, and 7, as well as Chalo buses, promoting greater ease and interconnectivity in public transport.

Senior officials, including Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, attended the launch.

MMRC Managing Director Ashwini Bhide stated that the NCMC rollout is a "significant milestone" for Mumbai’s public transport. "Being the city’s first underground Metro corridor, Line 3 is built with future-ready infrastructure, and this smart, contactless payment solution is integral to delivering a hassle-free experience to Mumbaikars," she said.

Also known as the Aqua Line, Mumbai Metro Line 3 spans 33.5 kilometres, connecting Cuffe Parade, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), and Aarey JVLR via 27 stations.

The recently inaugurated Phase 2A of Line 3 stretches 9.77 kilometres from BKC to Acharya Atre Chowk, featuring six new stations: Dharavi, Shitaladevi, Dadar West, Siddhivinayak, Worli, Acharya Atre Chowk.

The NCMC rollout supports the Government of India’s vision of a unified transport payment system and strengthens Mumbai’s position as a pioneer in smart, commuter-centric infrastructure.
