Mumbai Metro Line 12 to Connect Kalyan, Taloja & NM Airport

Mumbai’s metro network is set for a major expansion with Metro Line 12, a 22.17 km fully elevated corridor that will connect Kalyan to Taloja, while also linking up with the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) via the Navi Mumbai Metro. Construction began in March 2024, and the line is expected to be fully operational by December 2027.

A continuation of the Orange Line and an extension of Metro Line 5 (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan), Line 12 will feature 19 stations, starting at APMC Kalyan and ending at Amandoot (Taloja), which offers an interchange with Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1.

The ₹5,865 crore project (inclusive of escalation and taxes) is being built under an EPC contract awarded to a consortium led by Gawar Constructions, whose bid stood at approximately ₹2,037 crore. Early-stage construction is underway, with 5–20% of structural elements like piers and piles completed.

The station list includes:

APMC Kalyan, Kalyan, Ganesh Nagar, Pisavali Gaon, Golavali, Dombivli MIDC, Sagaon, Sonarpada, Manpada (Dombivli East), Hedutane (future Line 14), Kolegaon, Nilaje Gaon, Vadavali, Bale, Waklan, Turbhe, Pisarve Depot, Pisarve, and Amandoot (Taloja).

When complete, Metro Line 12 is expected to carry 2.5–2.6 lakh passengers daily by 2031, rising to 3 lakh by 2041. Trains will likely run as 6-coach rakes, shared with Line 5, operating 6 AM to 10 PM with a 5–7 minute frequency during peak hours.

Travel time between Kalyan and Taloja—currently 1 to 1.5 hours—will be cut to about 45 minutes, significantly easing daily commutes. The project is expected to reduce road congestion, boost regional growth, and enhance connectivity between Kalyan-Dombivli, Thane, and Navi Mumbai.

Moreover, Amandoot station will enable indirect access to NMIA, while future integration with Metro Line 8 (Gold Line) may offer a direct route between CSMIA and NMIA, improving airport connectivity for commuters from central suburbs.
