Trial runs on Mumbai Metro Line 4 are expected to commence this month, with passenger services on its initial phase likely to start by the end of 2025. The Green Line will operate between Kasarvadavali and Wadala, covering 32.3 km with 32 stations, providing much-needed relief to commuters in eastern and central Mumbai and Thane.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials stated that work is advancing rapidly on a 10.5-km section between Gaimukh and Cadbury Junction, which includes 10 stations. This stretch will open first, followed by the remainder of the line.

Approximately 60 per cent of the elevated corridor has been completed. A 6.9-km viaduct, including girders and precast segments, has been finished. Officials confirmed that structural activities, such as U-girder and I-girder installations, have been successfully completed between six stations: Kapurbawdi, Manpada, Tikujiniwadi, Dongripada, Vijay Garden, and Kasarvadavali. The last girder for this section was installed on Monday. Track laying has also been completed across most of the 10.5-km stretch, marking a key milestone before the start of trial runs.

Electrification work is in progress, with 4.6 km already electrified and overhead wires undergoing testing. MMRDA has placed a six-coach metro train on the elevated track using cranes in preparation for the trials. The car shed designated for the trial runs is yet to be completed.

Once trials begin, safety inspections, system integration checks, and signalling tests will be conducted before final approval for passenger services. Authorities aim to make this section operational for commuters by December 2025.
