NFR Lays Foundation for Rs. 500 mn Railway Colony in Dibrugarh

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has laid the foundation stone for the Model Kalibari Railway Colony in Dibrugarh, Assam, marking the beginning of a residential infrastructure project for railway employees. NFR General Manager Chetan Srivastava performed the foundation stone-laying ceremony on Friday at the existing railway colony opposite Dibrugarh Town Railway Station.

The ceremony was attended by Parag Katre, Divisional Railway Manager of the Tinsukia Division, and other senior railway officials. Rituals were conducted before the formal event, which took place during Srivastava’s visit to the town. The proposed colony will be developed across approximately 32,000 square metres and is intended to serve as a model residential complex under NFR.

The project will include 210 staff quarters along with modern infrastructure and related amenities. It has been estimated to cost around Rs. 500 mn and is scheduled for completion within two years. The development is expected to improve residential facilities for railway personnel and strengthen the infrastructure associated with the Dibrugarh railway network.

Srivastava also said Dibrugarh Town Railway Station was expected to resume operations within the next two months. Railway electrification work in the section had been completed, and the general manager indicated that passengers could soon see Vande Bharat trains operating in Dibrugarh, subject to coach availability and the readiness of supporting infrastructure.

On parking facilities, NFR said a portion of railway land had been provided for construction of a multi-storey parking facility in Dibrugarh. The proposal is intended to address parking requirements in the town while making use of available railway land. Together with the station reopening and the residential colony, the measures form part of ongoing railway-related infrastructure development in the area.
