The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has completed its ninth steel bridge on the Gujarat section of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, marking a major milestone in India's bullet train project. The newly installed structure features a 200-metre-long dual-span bridge across National Highway 48 near Nadiad in Kheda district, Gujarat.

According to the NHSRCL, the bridge comprises two spans of 100 metres each, collectively weighing approximately 2,884 metric tons, and measures 14.6 metres in height and 14.3 metres in width. The first span was launched in April 2025, with the second span completed recently using a slide launch technique that ensured uninterrupted traffic flow on the six-lane highway.

“NH-48, a key highway connecting Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, saw the 100-metre span launched across three lanes with minimum disruption,” said NHSRCL officials in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The entire steel bridge was fabricated in Salasar near Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, and designed to last 100 years. It was assembled on temporary trestles at a height of 14.9 metres above ground and launched using an automated mechanism with two semi-automatic jacks, each capable of lifting 250 tons, along with macalloy bars.

The bridge features Tor-Shear Type High Strength (TTHS) bolts—approximately 114,172 units, C5 anti-corrosion painting, and elastomeric bearings to withstand dynamic loads from high-speed trains.

This bridge is the ninth of 17 planned in Gujarat. In total, 28 steel bridges are scheduled for the entire MAHSR corridor—11 in Maharashtra and 17 in Gujarat.

The NHSRCL continues to make steady progress on this critical infrastructure project, which will significantly reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad once operational.
