Partial Opening Of Metro Lines Nine And Two B On April Three
Line Nine is a 13.5 km corridor linking Dahisar and Mira Bhayander and its first phase comprises a 4.5 km stretch with four stations at Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Mira Gaon and Kashigaon. The first segment will link Mira Road and Dahisar and will connect to Metro Line Seven, which runs from Dahisar to Andheri East. Authorities said the new link will provide a direct route to Andheri without interchanges and ease commuter journeys.
Officials estimate the extension could boost ridership on Line Seven by 50,000 to 0.1 million (mn) passengers daily and reduce congestion at the Dahisar check naka. The lower bound equates to 0.05 mn while the upper bound is 0.1 mn. Transport planners said such increases would relieve pressure on existing services and improve network efficiency.
On Metro Line Two B, five stations on a 5.39 km stretch between Mandale in Mankhurd and DN Nagar in Andheri will open in the first phase, including Mandale, Mankhurd, BSNL Metro, Shivaji Chowk and Diamond Garden. The corridor will eventually connect Mandale to DN Nagar and enhance east west connectivity. The tunnel boring machine lowered in December will commence excavation for the twin tunnel project and a second machine is being prepared, while land issues for the pod taxi in Bandra East have largely been resolved.
