Pathway Linking BMC Subway to Aqua Line 3 Metro at CSMT Unveiled

The pathway connecting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) subway at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to the under-construction Aqua Line 3 Metro CSMT station has become visible, marking a significant step towards the final launch of the Metro Line 3 corridor, anticipated by December 2025.

Located opposite the BMC headquarters at Azad Maidan, the Mumbai CSMT Metro station is being seamlessly linked to the existing CSMT railway station through the BMC underpass. This pathway offers direct access from the new Metro station to the existing BMC subway, providing one of several entry and exit points and facilitating effortless underground movement for commuters.

Currently, the Aqua Line 3 Metro operates between Aarey-JVLR, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk stations. Once fully operational, the 33.5-kilometre Aqua Line 3 will run between Colaba and SEEPZ, serving an estimated 1.7 million passengers daily. The line will connect with eight railway stations, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus depot, Metro Yellow Line 2B, and Blue Line 1. Notably, 26 out of the 27 stations on this line will be underground.

The project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The total revised cost of Rs 37.28 billion, approved by the Union government in February 2025, includes a JICA loan of Rs 21.28 billion.
