Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to lay the foundation stone for the second phase of the Jaipur Metro, which is planned to add 36 new stations to the city network, officials said. The proposed expansion is expected to extend the system into emerging residential and commercial corridors and to improve cross city connectivity for daily commuters. Authorities indicated that detailed alignments and station locations will be finalised after completing requisite surveys and environmental assessments.

The expansion is designed to relieve pressure on road networks and to provide faster travel options across major junctions and neighbourhoods, thereby reducing congestion and travel time for commuters. Planners said integration with existing bus services and park and ride facilities will be prioritised to allow multi modal movement and last mile connectivity. Local businesses and real estate stakeholders expect the new phase to stimulate economic activity along the corridors served by the metro.

The state administration and the metro authority will coordinate project delivery and are likely to commence detailed design and tendering processes following statutory approvals, officials added. Construction is expected to create employment opportunities for local labour and to require supply of materials and services from regional firms, supporting ancillary industries during the building phase. Authorities emphasised that timelines will depend on land acquisition, funding arrangements and regulatory clearances.

Officials indicated that the foundation stone ceremony may coincide with a forthcoming visit by national leaders and that subsequent stages will be announced as plans are approved. The expansion is presented as a long term investment in urban mobility intended to offer secure and efficient public transport and to encourage a modal shift away from private vehicles. Stakeholders said continued engagement with residents and transparent information sharing will be important as the project advances.
