Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a transformative infrastructure vision for Jammu & Kashmir, launching landmark projects worth Rs 460 billion to enhance connectivity and spur development in the region.

The announcement marks a historic milestone for Jammu & Kashmir's integration into the national transport network. Among the key highlights is the inauguration of the Chenab Rail Bridge, the tallest railway bridge in the world, which will significantly improve connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. The bridge is a marvel of modern engineering and a symbol of progress in the region’s development.

Accompanying the Prime Minister’s visit, the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir inspected the readiness at the iconic Chenab Bridge. Ahead of the event, Modi responded to a social media thread by the Chief Minister, reaffirming the government's commitment to uplifting the Union Territory through modern infrastructure.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the strategic importance of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), which promises all-weather rail connectivity across the Himalayan terrain. He also noted the upcoming Vande Bharat Express services between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar, which are expected to enhance spiritual tourism and provide employment opportunities for local residents.

He further highlighted the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge constructed in challenging terrain, as a testament to engineering excellence and the government’s resolve to bring development to every corner of the country.

Modi declared 6th June as a landmark day for the people of Jammu & Kashmir, stating that these projects will bring long-term economic and social benefits by improving accessibility, boosting tourism, and creating livelihoods.
