Pune’s public transport network has taken a significant step forward with the Purple Line of the Pune Metro now fully operational between Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Swargate. Spanning approximately 16.6 kilometres and including both elevated and underground sections, the corridor is expected to ease congestion and enhance daily travel convenience.

Developed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) and overseen by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the Purple Line connects major residential, commercial, and institutional areas. It offers a sustainable commuting option for thousands of daily travellers, reducing reliance on private vehicles and road traffic.

Route and Stations

The Purple Line consists of 14 stations, 11 of which are already operational: PCMC, Tukaram Nagar, Bhosari, Kasarwadi, Fugewadi, Dapodi, Bopodi, Khadki, Range Hill, Shivaji Nagar, and Civil Court. The remaining three—Budhwar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate—are under construction and are expected to open soon.

Once complete, the line will provide seamless access to major heritage markets, hospitals, and business districts across the city.

Civil Court: A Key Interchange

The Civil Court station will serve as a key interchange, linking the Purple Line to the Aqua Line (Vanaz to Ramwadi) and Line-3 (Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar). This integration is set to streamline city-wide travel and improve overall network efficiency.

Reduced Travel Time and Emissions

The line is projected to significantly cut down commute times between PCMC and Swargate while reducing the number of vehicles on roads like the Old Mumbai–Pune Highway, thus lowering traffic congestion and emissions.

The expansion marks another milestone in Pune’s effort to establish a modern, efficient, and environmentally conscious transport system.
