Pune Metro’s Purple Line Now Runs Fully to Swargate

The Purple Line of the Pune Metro is now fully operational, connecting Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate. Spanning 16.6 kilometres, this corridor is designed to address Pune’s challenges of congestion, pollution, and limited intra-city connectivity.
Developed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) and managed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the line combines elevated and underground stretches. It has been strategically planned to streamline daily commutes through some of the city’s busiest areas.
Why the Purple Line Matters
The corridor is a critical upgrade to Pune’s mobility infrastructure:
- Time-saving: Commuters between PCMC and Swargate enjoy faster travel.
- Traffic relief: Major arterial roads like the Old Mumbai–Pune Highway see reduced vehicular load.
- Environmental benefits: Fewer private vehicles on the road translate into improved air quality.
- Improved access: Key offices, markets, schools, and hospitals are now more accessible.
Integration and Connectivity
The Purple Line forms part of Phase 1 of the Pune Metro and will connect with the Aqua Line and the forthcoming Line-3. The Civil Court station will serve as a vital interchange, enabling seamless passenger transfers across multiple routes.
Out of 14 stations planned on the line, 11—including Bhosari, Shivaji Nagar, and Civil Court—are already operational. The remaining three—Budhwar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate—are expected to open soon. These stations will serve residential hubs, heritage markets, and key commercial zones, making the Purple Line an essential transit lifeline for the city.
