Pune Metro Expansion Gets Rs. 1.8 bn State Funding
The Swargate-Katraj corridor will receive Rs. 1 bn as equity and Rs. 800 mn as an interest-free subordinate loan. Maha Metro is developing the fully underground corridor, which has an approved project cost of Rs. 29.55 bn. The state has committed total equity of Rs. 3.98 bn towards the extension, and the latest release will take equity disbursement to Rs. 2 bn.
Earlier equity releases for the corridor included Rs. 600 mn in August 2025 and Rs. 400 mn in December 2025. The state has sanctioned a total subordinate loan of Rs. 3.22 bn, of which Rs. 1.6 bn will have been released after the latest instalment. Maha Metro is required to repay the loan in a single instalment after clearing the main project loan.
The Vanaz-Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi-Wagholi extensions will receive combined equity support of Rs. 200 mn. The two corridors cover 12.75 km and include 13 stations, improving access to Chandni Chowk, Kothrud, Kharadi and Wagholi. Their combined revised approved cost is Rs. 36.26 bn, while the state’s committed equity contribution is Rs. 4.8 bn.
The latest allocation will take state equity released for the two extensions to Rs. 800 mn, following a Rs. 600 mn release on June 19, 2026. Government directions require Maha Metro to maintain separate accounts for funding received from the Central government, Maharashtra government and Pune Municipal Corporation. The latest funding does not alter the opening schedule, which will depend on construction progress, further releases and project approvals.
