Pune Metro generates 9,837 kW power from operational station

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited's (Maha-Metro) Pune Metro project has achieved a significant milestone by generating 9,837 kilowatts (kW) of electricity from solar panels installed at operational metro stations. Officials have confirmed this development, marking a notable step in sustainable energy integration within the metro system.

Maha-Metro has set an ambitious target of generating 9 megawatts (MW) of solar energy from its stations and integrated workshop buildings at Range Hills Depot and Vanaz Depot by the next year. Atul Gadgil, the Director of Work at Maha-Metro, expressed his satisfaction with the current progress, stating, ""The solar panels at all operational metro stations are working well. Work is ongoing to install panels at the remaining stations.""

Currently, the Pune Metro's PCMC to Civil Court (Line 1) and Vanaz to Ruby Hall Clinic (Line 2) routes are operational. From Metro Line 1, the Pune Metro is generating 4,430.55 kW of power from stations, including PCMC, Sant Tukaramnagar, Bhosari, Kasarwadi, Phugewadi, Shivajinagar, and Range Hills stations. On Metro Line 2, which boasts 12 operational stations, 5,406.58 kW of power is generated from five stations—Vanaz, Anandnagar, Ideal Colony, Nal Stop, and Garware.

The Pune Metro's commitment to harnessing solar energy not only contributes to reducing its carbon footprint but also aligns with broader efforts to promote sustainable transportation and clean energy initiatives in the region.
