Pune Station Sets Up Holding Area to Ease Holiday Rush

To manage the surge in passenger traffic during the ongoing summer holiday season, Pune Division of Central Railway has introduced a dedicated holding area at Platform No. 1, near the VIP siding of Pune Railway Station. This initiative, led by Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Kumar Verma, is designed to streamline passenger flow, minimise overcrowding, and enhance the travel experience—particularly for general class travellers.

The newly established holding zone is a shaded waiting area equipped with key amenities such as adequate lighting, ceiling fans, separate portable toilets for men and women, and digital display boards providing real-time train updates. A help desk has also been set up to assist passengers with travel-related inquiries.

To ensure order and passenger safety, 25 Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and 15 ticket checking staff have been deployed for crowd control. Additionally, a commercial inspector or supervisor, along with one officer, has been assigned to oversee operations and monitor passenger movement.

General class passengers are guided to the holding area, where regulated checks and systematic boarding procedures are followed. Boarding is conducted in queues to avoid congestion and mitigate the risk of stampede-like situations caused by last-minute rushes.

Train boarding from the holding area is being managed in a phased and organised manner, easing platform crowding and ensuring smooth embarkation. During peak congestion, the sale of general tickets for summer special trains is being moderated in line with crowd levels to prevent excessive passenger buildup.

Pune Division continues to prioritise passenger safety and comfort during high-demand travel periods. These proactive steps reflect the railway’s ongoing commitment to efficient operations and improved passenger experience at Pune Station.
