Punjab-Made Vande Bharat Completes 180 Kmph Trial

A 16-coach Vande Bharat Chair Car trainset manufactured at the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala, Punjab, has completed a high-speed trial at 180 kmph on the Mathura-Nagda section. The trial was conducted on October 8, 2026, marking a significant step in the development of advanced trainsets made in India.

The inspection was carried out under the supervision of the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety. It assessed the trainset’s high-speed performance, operational efficiency and safety parameters before it can be considered for further operational use. The successful trial demonstrated the trainset’s ability to perform at the tested speed under controlled railway conditions.

The trainset is equipped with an advanced propulsion system and was manufactured at RCF Kapurthala, which has become an important centre for producing modern railway coaches. The factory manufactures coaches for trainsets including Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat, supporting the expansion of India’s domestic railway manufacturing capabilities.

RCF Kapurthala has also developed an international presence through the export of coaches to countries in Asia and Africa. These exports have strengthened India’s participation in global railway markets and added to the factory’s role in developing and supplying modern rail equipment.

During FY26, the factory recorded its highest-ever annual production, manufacturing 2,383 coaches. The achievement adds to its recent manufacturing milestones and reflects the growing contribution of Punjab’s industrial base to railway technology. RCF’s production and export activities are aligned with the Central Government’s Make in India, Make for the World initiative, which seeks to expand domestic manufacturing and improve India’s presence in international markets.
