Railway Ministry to renovate & give makeover to Kanpur Central station

One of Uttar Pradesh's main train stations, Kanpur Central, is getting a fresh new makeover.

The Ministry of Railways recently revealed a proposed design of Kanpur Central that showed an outstanding architectural marvel. The North Central Railways is handling the reconstruction project.

In the next 36 months, Kanpur Central's new structure is likely to be constructed for Rs 712 crore. In Kanpur, the new railway station will be a seven-story structure on the city side, also referred to as the Ghantaghar side.

A railway official told the media that the project's reconstruction detailed project report (DPR) is currently in focus following the completion of the master plan.

As part of the renovation, Kanpur Central would receive top-notch amenities like a food plaza, food courts, and basement parking that will reduce the area's traffic congestion.

The Kanpur Central reconstruction project is also evidence of the Indian Railways' commitment to the cause of climate welfare.

Shivam Sharma, NCR CPRO, informed that the Kanpur Central station would be built as a green building.

It means that the building would make the most of the free sunshine and use the least amount of artificial lighting. Thus, light pollution would be reduced.

The installation of rooftop solar panels to assist in power generation for the station is also mentioned in the master plan. Energy efficiency would also receive special attention.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also allotted Rs 12,000 crore as part of the 2022–23 Rail Budget for the renovation of stations like Prayagraj and Kanpur.

The Indian Railways has been updating the major stations from Uttar Pradesh to Madhya Pradesh to meet the needs of the modern world.
