The Railway Manufacturing Unit (RMU) being developed in Warangal is advancing rapidly and is set to be fully completed in 2026, Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy said during a review visit. Describing it as a “game-changing project for the region,” the Minister highlighted that construction work across the expansive 160-acre site is progressing on schedule, with critical infrastructure now taking shape.

The project’s first phase, backed by an investment of Rs 5.21 billion, is being executed with a strong emphasis on sustainability. According to officials, the facility is adopting green construction methods, energy-efficient systems and modern industrial technologies in line with the Centre’s push for an eco-friendly and future-ready railway ecosystem. Once operational, the RMU will start by producing high-performance mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) rakes of 16–20 coaches, aimed at strengthening short- and medium-distance passenger operations across India.

The Minister noted that the unit will play a significant role in boosting domestic rolling stock manufacturing capacity while generating substantial employment for skilled and semi-skilled youth in the region. The project is also expected to spur the growth of auxiliary industries, particularly those engaged in components, fabrication and maintenance support.

Earlier in the day, Reddy arrived in Warangal via the Vande Bharat Express before conducting an assessment of various Central projects in the area. His review covered tourism initiatives, updates on the proposed Warangal Airport, and progress at the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, which together with the RMU is expected to shape the city’s long-term industrial development.
