Indian Railways has implemented extensive measures to manage the sharp rise in passenger demand following widespread flight cancellations. Across the network, 37 trains have been augmented with 116 additional coaches, operating across 114 enhanced trips to ensure adequate accommodation and smoother travel.

Southern Railway has undertaken the highest number of augmentations, increasing capacity in 18 trains by deploying additional Chair Car and Sleeper Class coaches on high-demand routes. These enhancements, effective from 6 December 2025, significantly expand capacity in the southern region.

Northern Railway has augmented eight trains with additional 3AC and Chair Car coaches from today onwards, improving availability along heavily used northern corridors.

Western Railway has strengthened four high-demand trains by adding 3AC and 2AC coaches from 6 December 2025, supporting strong travel flows from western regions to the national capital.

East Central Railway has increased capacity on the Rajendra Nagar–New Delhi service (12309) by adding 2AC coaches over five trips between 6 and 10 December 2025, enhancing travel options on the key Bihar–Delhi sector.

East Coast Railway has added 2AC coaches to the Bhubaneswar–New Delhi services (20817/20811/20823) across five trips, improving connectivity between Odisha and the capital.

Eastern Railway has provided extra Sleeper Class coaches across three major trains over six trips on 7–8 December 2025 to meet heightened regional and inter-state demand.

Northeast Frontier Railway has augmented two major trains with 3AC and Sleeper Class coaches over eight trips each between 6 and 13 December 2025, ensuring reliable capacity for travel within the Northeast.

In addition to augmentations, Indian Railways is also running four special trains to support passengers. The Gorakhpur–Anand Vihar Terminal–Gorakhpur Special (05591/05592) will run four trips between 7 and 9 December 2025. The New Delhi–Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan–New Delhi Reserved Vande Bharat Special (02439/02440) will operate on 6 December 2025, ensuring speedy connectivity to Jammu.

To address high demand on the western corridor, the New Delhi–Mumbai Central–New Delhi Reserved Superfast Special (04002/04001) will run on 6 and 7 December 2025. The Hazrat Nizamuddin–Thiruvananthapuram Central Reserved Superfast Special (04080) will operate one-way on 6 December 2025, offering long-distance connectivity to the southern region.

These steps — including significant capacity augmentation across zones and the deployment of special trains — underscore Indian Railways’ commitment to easing travel pressures, ensuring adequate accommodation and providing timely transport during this period of heightened demand.
