The Railways has approved two projects to ease traffic congestion in northwest Delhi, the chief minister Rekha Gupta said on Sunday. The approved works comprise widening of the Haiderpur-Badli rail overbridge (ROB) on the Outer Ring Road and a proposed elevated loop linking Shalimar Bagh with Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar. The announcements follow submissions by the Public Works Department of technical drawings and project proposals to the Railways.

After detailed scrutiny the Railways deemed the plans technically feasible and issued an in-principle no objection certificate with the approval of the divisional railway manager. The Haiderpur-Badli ROB widening is intended to relieve pressure at Mukarba Chowk by allowing greater vehicular throughput on the ring road. The elevated loop will carry traffic over the railway tracks and is designed to separate local commuter flows from through traffic.

The chief minister conveyed appreciation to the prime minister and the railway minister for facilitating the clearances and stated that the measures form part of a broader effort to transform the capital into a developed city. The Delhi government is said to be committed to developing a modern, safe and uninterrupted transport network across the metropolis. Officials noted that the two northwest corridors have long been burdened by heavy traffic, with thousands of commuters and goods carriers using the routes daily.

Authorities indicated that the projects are expected to substantially reduce traffic congestion and deliver faster, safer and smoother connectivity to the public. The administration is working to identify major traffic bottlenecks across the city and to develop long-term solutions for them. Officials highlighted that Mukarba Chowk, the Outer Ring Road and the Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar area remain among the capital's busiest transport corridors.
